Langley’s products and technical know-how helped transform an old Royal Mail sorting office into a brand new school.
Langley provided an innovative and durable solution to the challenges posed by this major roof refurbishment project. The architecturally award-winning building, previously branded as an eyesore, was once a Royal Mail sorting office which lay derelict for years until its transformation into a brand-new Academy with places for 2,200 pupils.
Langley Approved Contractor, Ice Roofing and Cladding Limited, overcame the initial challenge and completed the refurbishment of all roof areas to an excellent standard. The renovation required extensive collaborative working and co-ordination throughout this extensive project.
Most of the roof areas had raised parapets which required skilful detailing, and one large roof was covered with a waterproofing system in preparation for paving slabs including a large podium area at the rear of the building. The completed roof project now benefits from sustainable solar panels and the building has resulted in several impressive architectural features, including a 400-seat theatre, rooftop sports hall and classrooms designed for out of hours use by students; redefining the idea of a typical academy.
