The roofing industry faces a transformative shift as the 31 December 2024 deadline for the expiration of CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) cards approaches. From 2025 onwards, all roofing installers working on UK construction sites must possess a minimum Level Two NVQ qualification.
As a company that is committed to roofing excellence, Sika Roofing looks forward to the change leading to a new era of elevated standards and encouraging a comprehensive level of knowledge and practical skills necessary to execute installations to industry best practices.
While improving safety and quality, this change may exacerbate existing skills shortages in the construction sector.
Proactive measures are needed to address potential bottlenecks and ensure a smooth industry transition. Sika’s Roofing Division is committed to supporting the industry through this change with comprehensive training programmes across four key roofing technologies.
The Sika Roofing one-, two- and four-day installer training courses equip installers with the ability to prove their competence and skill base in single ply membranes, liquid waterproofing, and reinforced bituminous membranes.
Conducted at Sika’s real-world simulation Training Centres, the courses allow participants to practise techniques before attempting live projects. Additionally, Sika offers a comprehensive eLearning platform, which allows roofing professionals to expand their skills and keep up-to-date on the very latest developments, regulatory requirements and innovations.
By fostering continuous learning and expertise, Sika aims to mitigate skilled personnel shortages, ensuring the roofing industry remains well-equipped to meet future demands with flexibility and adaptability.
