Commercial Manager appointed to RoofCERT as Jon Vanstone becomes Chair of Interim Industry Competence Committee

2 mins

RoofCERT, the UK’s roofing accreditation scheme, has appointed Matt Dawson as its Commercial Manager. This new role was created to help drive the programme to reach the ambitious target of accrediting 2,000 roofing operatives.

This appointment comes as RoofCERT’s Strategic Engagement Director, Jon Vanstone, who was instrumental in establishing the accreditation, has been appointed as the Chair of the Interim Industry Competence Committee (IICC). The IICC is a new committee established by the HSE to provide strategic leadership and oversight to improve competence in the built environment.

Matt Dawson, a qualified mechanical engineer, joins RoofCERT, from the insurance industry, where he worked closely with many clients across the construction industry. Prior to this, Matt has worked for several trade associations, including the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE), as well as the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) where he was responsible for a similar scheme for recruitment professionals.

Commenting on his appointment, Matt Dawson said:
I am delighted to be starting this position at such an exciting time for the RoofCERT scheme. Having worked previously in the insurance side of construction, I know the importance of upskilling and continuous development in ensuring quality. Client and government expectations on competency are only set to intensify over the coming years, but fortunately, the roofing sector is ahead of the game with RoofCERT. We have set ourselves some ambitious targets, however, I am confident that we can grow rapidly with the support of the industry behind us.

Commenting on his transition to his new role, Jon Vanstone said:
It has been a great pleasure to have been part of the formation and subsequent development and roll-out of the RoofCERT accreditation scheme. I have very much enjoyed working with so many different stakeholders in the industry, and I wanted to thank everyone for all the support they have shown. RoofCERT is very much a pioneering scheme, ahead of many other parts of construction, and you should be proud of this. I know that RoofCERT is in safe hands with Matt at the helm, and I look forward to working with Matt and the whole RoofCERT team as I take up my new role.
