EFFORTLESS BLENDING INTO NATURAL SURROUNDINGS ACHIEVED BY EXTENSIVE PLANNING
Situated in Macclesfifield, the new First Light Pavilion forms part of the JODRELL BANK DISCOVERY CENTRE. The uniquely-impressive dome was opened to the public in 2022 and blends effortlessly into its natural surroundings.
The shape of the roof provided the operatives with a challenge. A large amount of planning was involved in making sure that the roof was set out correctly. The contracts manager produced a phased plan, splitting the circular dome into 16 separate segments to ensure correct coverage and sufficient laps on the waterproofing. Although the waterproofing was to be covered by landscaping, the operatives took great pride while installing the Bauder system to keep the Pavilion watertight.
