Innovative Roofing Solution Ensures Weatherproofing and Design Freedom

2 mins

The Mapledown project, a 2,475 m2 contemporary residential property envisioned by Brendan Kilpatrick Architect, faced the challenge of utilising brick tiles for their aesthetic appeal while ensuring effective waterproofing.

Consultant Architect Ali Rashid sought a solution that would address this without compromising design integrity. Situated in a suburban landscape, the project needed a comprehensive waterproofing solution.

The team turned to ONDULINE’s ISOLINE LOW LINE, the only sub-roof system in the UK to be BRE tested and BBA accredited to as low as 10 degrees with a 30 year guarantee.

Compatible with any roof tile, this lightweight bituminous underlay sheeting positioned below the primary tile or slate serves as the primary waterproofing layer, with the roof tiles acting as secondary protection. Its corrugations enhance ventilation and moisture control, ensuring both practical functionality and design flexibility.

Ali Rashid said:

"We believe in pushing design boundaries while prioritising practicality and sustainability. Onduline's ISOLINE LOW LINE system seamlessly integrates with our choice of brick tiles, delivering both visual impact and structural resilience.

“Mapledown stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation in realising architectural excellence."

The integration of Onduline’s system was a success, merging the elegance of brick tiles with reliable weatherproofing.

Ardit Strica, Technical Manager for Onduline Building Products, concluded:

“Our ISOLINE LOW LINE system offers architects unparalleled design freedom without compromising on performance.

“The Mapledown project showcases the transformative potential of our solutions, underscoring our commitment to innovation in architecture."
