Brett Martin Restores Light to Swansea Stadium after 20-Years

2 mins

The refurbishment of the roof on the east stand of Swansea Stadium, which saw the like-for-like replacement of the original Brett Martin Marlon CS polycarbonate sheets, not only addressed weather damage but also restored the light transmission of the roof, improving the spectator experience. The roof was replaced in 7 weeks with zero disruption to matchdays.

Opened in 2005, Swansea Stadium, home to Swansea City AFC, features Marlon CS corrugated polycarbonate sheet on the roof of the stadium to bring daylight into the stands while protecting spectators from the elements. Marlon CS was ideal as it is 200 times stronger than glass and provides almost 90% light transmission.

In 2025, Swansea City AFC contacted Brett Martin and specialist commercial roofing and cladding contractor Central Group for support in addressing storm damage to the roof, which had led to water ingress.

Central Group was tasked with carrying out immediate repairs using Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) panels supplied by Brett Martin. Central Group also conducted a full survey of the roof and recommended a full replacement of the 1,200m² of Marlon CS roofing panels on the East Stand, which was subsequently carried out over the course of seven weeks.

Paul Priestley, Regional Business Manager at Brett Martin, said: “Swansea Stadium shows the quality and longevity of our Marlon CS panels. They stood the test of time for more than two decades but exposure to the weather meant replacement was necessary. It has made a striking difference to the stadium, with the new panels restoring the original brightness and clarity.”

Adam Vosper, Business Development Manager at Central Group concluded: “The support provided by Paul and the wider team throughout this process was excellent. Based on this experience, we look forward to working with Brett Martin on future projects.”
