Southover: traditional aesthetics meet sustainability with CUPA PIZARRAS THERMOSLATE®

When the property owners embarked upon the conversion of a traditional barn within a conservation area, sustainability was a key priority from the outset.

The project’s architect, Paul Kellet, said: “My client was keen to use a natural material for the roof of the property, while also making a sustainable contribution to meeting the family’s energy needs.”

The specification of THERMOSLATE® and complementary CUPA R12 slates allowed Paul to meet these requirements and utilise a thermal-solar solution that is completely integrated into the natural slate roof.

Six THERMOSLATE® panels were fitted as part of the 190 m2 slated roof area which will be able to generate 57 per cent of the energy required for the hot water, reducing carbon emissions by nearly 459 kg per year.

The CUPA R12 Excellence slates selected were seamlessly integrated, thanks to their uniform thickness and colour match.

Edward Mcewan, Director at EA Construction who installed the roof, said: “This was the first time we’ve worked with CUPA PIZARRAS products, but we would definitely do so again on the right project.

The renewable credentials of THERMOSLATE® would make it an ideal choice for new builds aiming for energy certifications and accreditations.”

The technology behind THERMOSLATE® was central to the project’s success, and as a lightweight solution, it is a better choice for original, un-strengthened roofs.
