Specialist craft knowledge being put to use. Extensive work was carried out to replace all lead elements on this 150-year-old clock town.
Along with the plain tiles, all lead elements were replaced, with care taken to address the design flaws created by previous work in order to prolong the life of the tower. The leadwork included replacement of the box gutters, vertical cladding and lourves finished off with a lead final.
The contractor carefully removed the existing cast fleur-fe-lis lead motifs and brought them back to their foundry workshop. Each motif was then carefully cast in sand and the original lead was smelted then re-cast to create the new motifs.
