NOTHING TOO MUCH FOR ICONIC LONDON BUILDING

Logistically and technically, the BATTERSEA POWER STATION development proved a true test of the contractor’s workmanship and project management capabilities.

To provide the chimney structures with long-term waterproof protection and stay true to the aesthetic of the repurposed site, the contractor worked with IKO products and applied mastic asphalt to the bases of the four chimneys, totalling 750 m², as part of a challenging but very rewarding application for the tradespeople working on this iconic building. As a measure of how the contractor went beyond its remit to exceed project requirements, it designed a mastic asphalt solution to waterproof and line a peregrine falcon’s nest within the chimneys. The birds have been resident there for many years, and the 1 m x 1 m square nest will provide them with a permanent home.
